confidence and visibility
Confidence and visibility are interconnected - most women don’t realize how much our confidence affects our willingness to be more visible and our visibility affects our levels of confidence.
Here are some of the ways confidence and visibility impact one another.
Self-perception and Self-worth
When women feel seen and acknowledged, it can lead to a greater sense of self-worth. This recognition and validation from others can boost confidence. This is particularly noticeable in workplaces or social settings where visibility can lead to recognition of efforts.
Social Learning Theory
According to Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory, people can learn by observing the behaviors of others. When a woman sees another woman (especially a role model) exhibiting confidence in a particular situation, it can inspire and teach them to act similarly.
Feedback Loop
Increased visibility often leads to more feedback, both positive and negative. Constructive feedback can reinforce positive behaviors and guide the rectification of undesirable behaviors, leading to greater competence and subsequently, increased confidence.
Exposure
Women who repeatedly put themselves in situations of greater visibility can desensitize themselves to fears and anxieties associated with being in the spotlight. Over time, this exposure can lead to increased confidence.
Self-affirmation
Visibility can cause women to define or assert their identity, values, or stances more clearly. This act of self-affirmation can strengthen their sense of self and boost confidence.
Opportunities and Growth
Visibility often brings about opportunities, whether in careers, social circles, or personal endeavors. Seizing these opportunities and experiencing growth can in turn foster greater confidence.
